Upcoming 0.1.1 Release


Hi everyone!

The Vampire Themed Game Jam - October 2021 is nearly over. Thank you to everyone who has played, rated and reviewed my game. It's been really helpful. I have enjoyed making this game and have already been coding for the project since then. So I wanted to announce that a lot of the suggestions, issues and features in your reviews have been added and will be released in the next version.  No definitive date. But earliest is Friday 19th and latest is end of November (shouldn't be that long, but to be safe, as this is only a hobby project).

Here is what has already been developed:

1) Combat:
As seen in pictures above, the player can now shoot enemies. The first enemy to fight will be Alex (a New-Born Vampire) and he can grab the player and then drain their blood. This depletes the players health. In a grabbed state, the player must rapidly press the interact button to push away from the enemy. This stops your health being depleted and temporarily stuns the enemy, giving the player ample time to escape.
Combat will be fleshed out for different enemy types. But Alex is the basic vampire and therefore only has limited speed and abilities.

2) Dialogue Interaction:
As seen in the images, work has been done to make it clearer which option is currently selected. It also comes with sound effects when highlighting and clicking.

3) Pausing:
The game can now be paused at any point outside of dialogue by the player. This allows you to quit, see the controls and load the last checkpoint. This may be fleshed out with more options

4) Sound:
As mentioned in point 2, sound has been implemented. So far BE has sound effects for:

- Footsteps,
- Jumping and landing.
- Drawing gun
- Firing Gun
- Dialogue effect for Open, Close and Option selection.

5) Bug fixes:
Collison in the Toilet Area on either side has now been fixed, so the player doesn't fall to their death.

Here is what is left to be developed for this release:

1) Animations:
- Combat animations need a final touch up. They're close but not quite ready.

2) Dialogue:
- All dialogue needs reviewing. It was rushed for the Game Jam. So existing dialogue will be updated to read better and add more to the story.
- Add additional dialogue. Not much more will be added, but player hints and maybe a bit more interaction with NPCs to allow you to inform NPCS on what you have found and question them, some will be dead ends, but some may give you clues.

Final Note

That wraps up the next releases announcement. It is mainly gameplay mechanics and improvements.

But in a look to the future, the following release will be story focused and will complete the first level. Timescales are subject to change, but I am confident that this can be completed by the end of the year. It just may be that the level needs additional fleshing out in subsequent releases.

Also I may be looking to put some post on a YouTube channel to showcase each version.
